I am struggling with the part of the RT system which maps RT-blob "attributes" to "styles" which handle the details of how the text is rendered.

The immediate logical tangle which occurs to me is that I'm allowing multiple attributes per text-blob, which makes sense for "role" attributes but less sense for "shape" attributes -- because "shape" defines the structure of the rendered output, and it doesn't make sense to say that something has two different shapes simultaneously (until we have displays with quantum-superposition pixels, I guess).

So maybe "role" and "shape" should not both be encapsulated under the umbrella of "attribute".
