The name has been through the following variations:

  • 2021/05/31: The Software Uprising
    • The initials, SU, are evocative of the POSIX su command, which is short for "superuser" -- which nicely implies the way we want to elevate the user in importance.
  • 2021/05/18: The Software Rebellion
    • I found it was difficult to remember which R-word it was (revolt? revolution?).
    • It also sounds a bit too evocative of the January 6 insurrection, Southern "Rebels", and so forth.
  • 2021/03/01: The Software Development Society
  • 2021/02/10: The Software Development Corps (why?)
    • fon suggested that "Corps" is too militaristic; there seemed to be a consensus around that idea, and I tend to agree.
