This is where the quantity actually requested from the Template:L/vc/term is recorded.

When entering this field in a Template:L/vc/term request, this defaults to the quantity needed for each item – but the actual request as sent to the supplier may have a different quantity for any of several possible reasons. This field lets you keep track of what was actually ordered, in case it's different from what the system suggested.
